NITC - after a long time :)

This link takes us down the memory lane and describes NITC from the eyes of one of the alumni Ajith (CSE, 2004). This is for the uninitiated - so that we keep abreast of the changes taking place in NITC. Ajith's visit happened sometime in March, 2007. The link also contains detailed pictures of the changes that have happened in NITC. The only saving grace was that our good old MC had remained the same, over the ages! But now, even that is gone!

As one comment in Ajith's blog by a current student says -

"MC is no more, its been shut down. No more football ground, its been demolished.College ratings have improved 7th in Indian sub-continent.We are heading in the right direction i guess. "

I am sure, that in academics and quality of education, we're headed in the right direction - but is it also so as an institution ?Does such an evolution actually give the right skills to the students ? Thats a question, which only time can answer.

I am not sure if all of you know this, NITC is no longer a 'deemed unoversity'. After the NIT act was enforced in august, NITC is now fully fledged technical university established by an act of the parliament. The President of india is the head ('visitor') of the institute. .It has also been declared an 'institution of national importance' the same status as the IiTs and AIIMS (by the way, in case you are wondering IIMs are not INIs, this is why they don't award degrees- there are plans to change this). Some of the people at NITC are seemingly unaware of this- the website still says 'deemed university'
