Colourful start to Tathva

KOZHIKODE: ‘Tathva’, the latest edition of the annual technical festival of the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, (NIT-C) got off to a colourful start here on Thursday.

Prof. R.V.G Menon, the former chairman of Kerala Shastra Sahitya Parishad, declared the festival open, in the presence of a large audience. The function was presided over by NITC director Dr. G.R.C Reddy.

The three-day event will consist of numerous technical events covering all the engineering streams, and plenty of seminars and workshops. Claimed to be the second largest of its kind in South India, this year’s Tathva is planned as a techno-management fest, with the inclusion of business events, merging the fields of management and technology.

Tathva’07 will also host the preliminary round of the robotics competition of IIT Bombay - ‘Nexus’. Other major events include video conferences by eminent international personalities like Richard Stallman and Aaron Swartz.

Dr R.V.G Menon, in his inaugural address, stressed on the social responsibility of engineers and exhorted them to be social engineers rather than confining themselves in technical arena.

“Technology and culture are the two sides of the same coin,” said Dr G.R.C Reddy welcoming the public into the campus, to be a part of the technical festival. The convenors Dr M.Ramachandran and Lyla B.Das were present on the occasion along with student coordinators Dileep Kumar, Kiran Sasikumar and Rakesh Mukundan.
